Students in traditional language courses can adapt fairly easily to the demands of their chosen course, but students on the newer courses often find themselves on far less familiar ground in terms of language style and lexical registers. This book is intended to make the student's and the teacher's task much easier and is divided into two main parts. The first part deals in German with a number of topics - for example the system of government, political parties, interest groups and the economy. The second part contains extracts from German newspapers and official publications. Also included in this part of the book are topics which may be used for essays or seminar papers. There is a glossary where key terms in the book are explained or given English equivalents.
