The Underground River

Set against the backdrop of a nineteenth-century riverboat theater, the story follows May Bedloe, a naive seamstress who becomes entangled in the dangerous world of the Underground Railroad. After her steamboat sinks, she finds herself working on Hugo and Helena's Floating Theatre while secretly aiding a network of abolitionists. As her lies multiply and the threat of exposure looms, May must navigate her growing feelings for Hugo and the risks posed by Dr. Early, who hunts down Runaways. Her choices could endanger everyone she cares about.
