Conceptual MEMS Devices for a Redeployable Antenna

Focusing on innovative applications, this thesis explores the development of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) for deploying antennas on small platforms like insects or microrobots. Utilizing a 1 mm monopole antenna, various MEMS designs were created, including mechanisms powered by scratch drives and thermal actuators. Successful prototypes featured unique configurations, such as gears that elevate the antenna beam or flip side flaps. The study emphasizes the potential of MEMS in enhancing communication technologies through self-assembly and efficient design modifications.
