The Dhammapada

Friedrich Max Müller was a pivotal figure in the development of Indian studies and religious studies in the West. His scholarly contributions include the influential 50-volume set, The Sacred Books of the East, which he oversaw as a translator. Notably, he introduced the concept of a Turanian language family. His academic career flourished at Oxford University, where he became deputy professor of modern European languages and was honored with an M.A. and membership at Christ Church. His work bridged cultural and linguistic divides, shaping the study of Eastern texts in the West.
