The biography chronicles the life of Philip Edward Thomas, a Welsh poet and literary critic born in 1878. Educated at prestigious schools, he initially pursued a career in literature, reviewing numerous books and mentoring poet W. H. Davies. Thomas began writing poetry in 1914 under the pseudonym 'Edward Eastaway,' encouraged by Robert Frost. Despite his late start, he produced significant works, including the famous poem about Adlestrop. Enlisting in the military during World War I, he was killed in action in 1917. Thomas is remembered as a key figure among the War Poets, with his contributions celebrated posthumously.
