The planning and construction of buildings and infrastructure require a complex interaction between involved disciplines with partially diverging interests as well as the recognition of their impact on the natural environment. They impose demands on safety and reliability for a long time. Thus, the civil engineer has to take responsibility for the creation and maintenance of technical constructions. Advanced education has to consider that most of the challenging future constructions will require further theoretical and practical developments in a close collaboration of engineering practice and research. The Bauhaus Summer School series provides an international forum for such an exchange of methods and skills related to the interaction between different disciplines of modern engineering science.
