Teachers have become - again - key actors in the transformation process of industrial societies into dynamic, knowledge-driven learning societies. While the importance of traditional didactic models of teaching is decreasing, the relevance of active learning of students in powerful learning environments is increasing. The focus is shifting from teaching towards learning. Teachers as key actors have to learn how to provide appropriate learning cultures enabling students to acquire the competencies needed in dynamic learning societies. The close collaboration with our seventeen European partner universities in ALERT may be made accountable that this general aim could be met both at Paedagogische Akademie des Bundes in Upper Austria and at most of our partner universities.
