This work is based on the finding that the German energy system is currently undergoing a paradigm shift, which is expected to affect the Norwegians in the future. Utilities need to re-think their strategies in order to break away from the existing supply-driven delivery and product structures to enable them to meet demand-driven market characteristics. This will require investment into the intelligent interconnection, control and storage of decentralized energy supply options. The integration of demand side management options and the creation of knowledge networks in the Internet of Energy will gain increasing importance. This will have consequences for the corporate culture. The market participants will need to create regional and international clusters. By enabling the structured pooling of human and knowledge resources across corporate and national borders, innovation will allow the clustered partners to compete successfully.
