This book addresses how national health systems face the challenges of accommodating the cultural diversity of healthcare providers and service users. The author identifies the complexities of managing ethno-cultural diversity in healthcare, discussing critical areas such as intercultural competence, intercultural training, organizational wide approaches and diversity management. The study compares international institutional perspectives and focuses on the strategy undertaken by the Irish health system. Through a qualitative empirical study involving interviews with 93 healthcare professionals, the author demonstrates to what extent the Irish strategy has been implemented in six hospitals, offering analysis, recommendations and proposing a more comprehensive, adaptable organizational wide approach for future healthcare management.
