Towards a 'German mosque': rethinking the mosque's meaning in Germany via applying socio-semiotics

Viac o knihe

Constructing mosques represents a fundamental demand for Muslims residing Germany. However, it is a dilemma, because the mosque is a strange Islamic symbol in Germany’s urban and society. Therefore, the book works on upgrading the mosque’s societal context, objective architecture, and different layers of meanings according to Muslims’ current conditions in Germany. The latter are no longer temporarily living in Germany as ‘Gastarbeiter’, but they permanently inhabit Germany as ‘Muslim Germans’. Thus, the publication does not aim at merely finding a conception for an ordinary ‘mosque in Germany’, but it aims at formulating the notion of the ‘German Mosque’—a mosque paving societal interactions and communication channels, regardless of the users’ religious, political or national affiliations. The ‘German Mosque’ is an interdisciplinary step toward replacing segregation, isolation and conflict with integration, contribution and coexistence.
