The future is always with us. Not a day passes without our being confronted with the long-term consequences of climate change, shrinking resources, financial crises or the risks of the aging society. The world of the day after tomorrow often seems abstract, remote from normality and fateful. The future appears to be growing and developing, while we stand by powerless to influence it. This is the focus of ABSTRAKT No. 13 – with topics that directly affect our lives, ranging from having babies, our work, food and homes through to dying. Of course no one knows what the future will look like. It therefore has to be envisaged in a variety of scenarios – then we can shape it for ourselves. This book presents ideas and alternative solutions to the everyday after tomorrow, with New York environmental artist and engineer Natalie Jeremijenko, Finnish strategy designer Marco Steinberg, ETH professor Theo Wehner, London technology journalist Olivia Solon and Munich industrial designer Konstantin Grcic. The future is ours!
