This book deals with the legal regulations and jurisdictions to combat maritime piracy as it occurs these days worldwide. It is examined within this book whether the existing legal regulations do and can combat these developments of modern day piracy and cover all acts of it. Thereby, the author explores the piracy regulations of UNCLOS, the SUA Convention and its Protocol of 2005 as well as national piracy laws in some countries and the reaction of the IMO and the UN to the piracy threat. While examining these regulations, the author comes to the conclusion that the existing regulations do not give effective legal security with regards to the piracy threat and shows how the international regulations fail to evolve to reflect the times and place as well limitations on those countries, organizations and companies who can best combat the pirate crisis.
