This book is based on research carried out in Northern Uganda on the how people in post conflict negotiate between retributive and restorative justice in their quest for peace and justice. In their daily lives, restorative and retributive justices are constantly negotiated and interdependent. People pragmatically choose to apply aspects of each system to serve their goals. An ingenious hybrid of retributive and restorative justice is creatively used to facilitate the achievement of peace and justice. This accentuates the need for a pluralistic system of justice that combines legal and non-legal elements. Institutions like ICC need to adopt a pragmatic approach that works in a particular context.
