Computational fluid dynamics for the 21st century

This book presents the emerging trend of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for the 21st Century, featuring papers from a symposium honoring Prof. Nobuyuki Satofuka on his 60th birthday. The event, titled "Computational Fluid Dynamics for the 21st Century," took place at the Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT) in Japan from July 15-17, 2000, as part of the institution's centennial celebrations. Distinguished speakers from Japan and the international community in Asia, Europe, and North America contributed to the discussions. This book is dedicated to Prof. Satofuka in recognition of his significant contributions to CFD over the past 30 years, particularly in advancing numerical methods and understanding flow physics across various regimes, detailed in the first chapter. The subsequent chapters cover a range of topics, highlighting new and promising directions for the field. They reflect the ten sessions of the symposium, addressing both numerical methods and applications, including grid generation, new numerical schemes, optimization techniques, parallel computations, and applications to multi-scale and multi-physics problems, design, flow control, and emerging topics beyond aeronautics.
