Molecular dynamics in the developing Drosophila eye

This book shows how a complex, regularly-ordered organ, the Drosophila compound eye, originates from a few, unpatterned embryonic cells. Proliferation, cell fate determination, and programmed cell death are analyzed at the identified single cell level, revealing general principles of developmental biology that are broadly applicable to other systems in other organisms.
