Computational fluid dynamics on parallel systems

Viac o knihe

The DFG symposium on "Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) on Parallel Systems" took place at the Institut für Aerodynamik und Gasdynamik, Stuttgart University, on December 9-10, 1993, as part of the DFG-Schwerpunktprogramm and French-German cooperation. Attended by 37 scientists, the event featured 18 papers focusing on various numerical solutions of the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations using finite element, finite volume, and a two-step Taylor Galerkin algorithm. These methods were applied to both incompressible and compressible flows, addressing steady and unsteady conditions, including turbulent combustion with complex chemistry. The research utilized structured and unstructured grids, showcasing high numerical efficiency through multiplicative, additive, and multigrid methods. Investigations covered shared memory, virtual shared memory, and distributed memory systems, often employing automatic grid partitioning techniques. Domain decomposition methods were a focal point, particularly in resolving interface problems associated with block dense matrices. Multilevel decomposition, using multifrontal algorithms, proved to be highly efficient. The numerical approaches included explicit and implicit schemes, with the latter frequently solved via a Gauss-Seidel line relaxation technique.
