The Erzgebirge/Kru? né hory region is a strongly eroded Hercynian mountain range with the present surface dipping rather flat towards the NNW and steeper to the SSE where it is bordered by the Tertiary Ohře/Eger rift. The highest ranges are close to the German/Czech border. This volume contains selected papers dealing with ore deposits of the world famous Erzgebirge/Krusné hory region and specific aspects of metallogenesis. Mineral deposit research carried out in this ore district during the last centuries had implications far beyond Germany and the Czech Republic. The present volume results from an idea born in 1990 by Professor Dietrich Klemm (Munich/Germany) and Professor Ian Plimer (Melbourne/Australia) who have contacted many researchers working in the Erzgebirge during the last decades. As this volume is strictly related to mineral deposits, papers dealing mainly with the petrology and tectonic setting of the granites have not been included.
