Nonlinear hyperbolic equations

Viac o knihe

In 1986, the International Conference on Nonlinear Hyperbolic Problems in St. Etienne, France, initiated a biennial series focusing on this rapidly expanding mathematical field and its applications in Continuum Mechanics and Aerodynamics. The second conference took place in Aachen, Germany, from March 14-18, 1988, attracting over 200 participants from more than 20 countries and featuring around 100 invited and contributed papers. This strong turnout confirmed the value of continuing the conference series, with the third event planned for Sweden in 1990. This volume includes 68 original papers presented at the conference. Of these, 22 focus on mathematical theory, addressing topics such as existence, uniqueness, stability, and the behavior of solutions, as well as physical modeling through evolution equations. Another 22 papers delve into numerical analysis, exploring stability and convergence of solutions, particularly in relation to shock waves, contact discontinuities, and artificial boundaries. The remaining 24 papers discuss multidimensional computational applications, including nonlinear waves in solids, flow through porous media, and compressible fluid flow, encompassing shock waves, real gas effects, multiphase phenomena, and chemical reactions. The editors and organizers express gratitude to the Scientific Committee for their support in recommending invited lectures and selecting contributed papers.
