8th PhD-Symposium - Bringing Future Scientists Together & DRS Presentation Seminar

AuszugDear PhD & Doctoral students, Professors, Research Associates and Guests, In keeping with tradition and the ideology of ‘by the students and for the students’ the graduate students of Freie Universität Berlin bring to you the 8th PhD symposium for all members of the DRS graduate school “Biomedical Sciences”, doctoral students and interested guests. The PhD symposium was initiated by the students of the faculty of veterinary medicine at the Freie Universität Berlin in 2006 and since then has grown four fold to bring together students and scientists from diverse areas of research in biomedical sciences, including but not limited to the fields of biology, human and veterinary medicine and biochemistry. ‘A scientist is happy, not in resting on his attainments but in the steady acquisition of fresh knowledge.’ With these words of Max Planck in mind, this year we are hosting the symposium in English, giving all interested students a platform to discuss their research interests and form connections for further inter-disciplinary collaboration. This symposium provides an opportunity for students to present their work in the form of a poster or oral presentation in a very conducive and relaxed atmosphere to help you hone your professional as well as social skills. A new feature of this year’s poster presentation will be the poster power slam. In this special session every poster-presenter will give a two-minutes-two-slides power point presentation of their work. To enrich our symposium even further there will be two keynote lectures by renowned scientists and two additional lectures by Profund and Royal Canin. We hope to draw from the experiences of doctoral students to help us troubleshoot when it comes to a scientific problem or just keep us motivated when we don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. After a day of intense scientific discussion we would like to invite you to unwind at our BBQ, and also provide a more casual setting to interact with your future peers to form a network for years to come.
